Commitment to diversity, equity, & inclusion
Sown To Grow strongly believes that the diverse collective experiences of our team are critical in engaging and supporting the learners and educators we serve. We currently maintain excellent and industry-leading diversity among our upper ranks, take pride in the fact that our team mirrors the backgrounds of the students and communities we serve, and we have plans in place to maintain these structures.
Our team reflects a wide variety of backgrounds, identities, experiences, geographies and skills. Our current leaders are 70% people of color, and our team includes first-generation college-goers, immigrants, those who live in urban/suburban/rural environments, individuals who identify with varying sexual orientations, and those who came to Sown To Grow from a variety of professional backgrounds (e.g., classroom, social work, school/district administration, technical fields, private sector management, etc). We strongly believe that a diverse collective experience of our team is critical in engaging and supporting the learners and educators we seek to serve.
As an education technology company, we also pay close attention to representation within our technical team. Fifty-five percent (55%) of Sown To Grow’s technical team is made up of team members who are women and/or from underrepresented minority groups in tech (Black and Hispanic, specifically). According to a recent report by the National Science Foundation, average representation of these groups in the US is approximately 20% in technical roles.
As we continue to grow, we remain steadfast in our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. This dedication drives our mission to create meaningful connections and equitable outcomes for communities we support.
